Job Summary:

To support the clinical team, supporting delivery of specific interventions to the inpatient population, providing advice, support and care for service users with mental health needs and within a multidisciplinary setting. The post holder will be required to provide support and guidance to carers.

You must understand and implement the mission, vision and values of the Options for Care. The post holder will be required to work from time to time without direct supervision.

Principle responsibilities:
Fulfilling the role of Associate/Co Worker under the supervision of a qualified nurse/clinician.

Assisting and assessing individuals with Activities of Daily Living; including personal hygiene, dietary intake, budget management, and so on; with due regard to principle of recovery.

Helping individuals to maintain independence from others by assessing and assisting in the development of daily living, domestic, communication and social skills.

Promoting the physical health and wellbeing of service users through support and education and assisting qualified staff in the physical health monitoring, including monitoring of blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration, weight, drug and alcohol screening (after appropriate training). Maintaining a safe environment free from unnecessary hazards.

Reporting any abnormalities, accidents, untoward incidents or observations relating to a care. Ensuring that dignity and privacy of service users is maintained.  Ensuring the promotion of issues of equality diversity and rights in accordance with good practice and legislation.

Ensuring effective communication pathways exist. Under supervision of a qualified team member, implementing and assisting with the evaluation of individual plans of care. Reporting and recording the results of implemented plans of care in the appropriate and agreed format. Under supervision, and with appropriate training, taking a lead role in one or more aspects of care, i.e. Infection control, Health & Safety. Assisting senior staff in the planning and delivery of therapeutic and social activities for patients in the clinical area.

When necessary, accompanying/escorting service users as directed by senior staff. Observe the requirements of the Mental Health Act 1983, Children’s Act and Child protection and Vulnerable Adult procedures.

Responsible for the promotion of carer and service user involvement within the service and for its provision. Responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with service users, and the implementation of evidence based therapeutic interventions, under guidance of the multidisciplinary team.

Professional:
Responsible for participation in the Options for Care appraisal process, identifying own mandatory professional, personal development and training needs. To participate and contribute appropriately in research and clinical governance.

To respect and value the different therapeutic approaches within the multi-disciplinary team but ensure that the agreed philosophy approach is adopted and followed.

Responsible for ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times in accordance with the data protection act, trust policy and good practice.
Responsible for maintaining and conducting oneself in a professional manner towards service users, carers, colleagues and other agencies. Participate in joint working with appropriate experts/agencies.

Education:
Responsible for the provision of formal and informal training of pre/post registration students, staff members, carers and service users.
Responsible for the provision of staff induction, mentorship, appraisal and clinical supervision to professional colleagues as appropriate.

Organisational:
The post holder is responsible for ensuring that they contribute and work towards the service/organisational aims and objectives. The post holder as an individual is required to understand their responsibility for respecting and promoting issues of equality diversity and rights in accordance with good practice and legislation.

Responsible for reading, understanding and complying with all relevant policies and procedures.

Communication:
The post holder is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely written records are kept which comply with organisational policy, reporting on any issues as appropriate.

The post holder is responsible for referring all enquiries regarding patients or departmental information to the senior staff. The post holder is responsible for ensuring they comply with current good practice in informing/updating all members of the multi-disciplinary team, their colleagues, service users and appropriate others of changes involving current nursing care plans, progress, mental state and psychosocial factors in line with best practice.

The post holder is responsible for ensuring that they clearly communicate with service users and carers, actively listening to establish an understanding of the needs of the service user and their carers.
Responsible for the effective utilisation of nursing/financial resources to ensure adequate clinical care is provided with a requirement that all incidents, which may compromise care, are reported immediately to the registered manager.


Additional responsibilities
The postholder will: Attend statutory and mandatory training as necessary as specified by Options for Care Ltd. Carry out other duties identified by the management team commensurate with their role as and when required. 

Attend meetings as necessary. Engage in any audit processes deemed to be necessary. Perform administrative and clerical duties as delegated by the Registered Manager.

Requirements:
·       Completed NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care
·       Evidence of appropriate post graduate learning
·       Care Certificate (Completed, or working towards)
·       Experience of working within mental health services or similar care experience
·       Experience of working with behaviours that can be challenging
·       To understand and adhere to the confidential nature of the work
·  Understanding of the roles of individual members of the clinical multi-disciplinary team
