Hours:       37.5 per week (Monday to Friday 8am – 4pm)

Salary:       up to £35,000 per annum dependent on experience

Location:  Birmingham (Regional)

Options For Care Ltd. is hiring an experienced, reliable Maintenance person to join our team. Reporting to our team lead, the successful applicant will be responsible for interior and exterior repair, maintenance, and upgrade projects in our care Units across Birmingham.

Dartmouth House is a 16-bed male long-term complex care mental health inpatient unit based in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham.

Montague Court is an 18-bed male long-term complex care mental health inpatient unit based in Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Orchard House is an 8-bed residential step-down service based in Erdington, Birmingham, which allows for the extension of the long-term complex care pathway.

Stanford Court will be a 23-bed male mental health inpatient unit based in Highgate, Birmingham. This will consist of a 19-bed enhanced care service and four self-contained recovery flats to enable assessment of daily living skills in preparation for discharge.

The ideal candidate will have physical stamina, technical expertise, and previous trade or handyman experience.

Job responsibilities:

  • Perform walk-through assessments and prepare job sheets.
  • Perform basic repairs (e.g., broken locks, handles, furniture, doors etc)
  • Complete general maintenance work in plumbing, heating and lighting
  • Move heavy furniture, appliances, and equipment.
  • Assist trades with electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repair work.
  • Clean shower heads, Vents, Gutters, and other exterior surfaces
  •  Installing new taps, sinks and toilets, and repairing leaks.
  • Decorating: painting walls and ceilings, touching up skirting boards and door frames, sanding floors and other wooden surfaces.
  • Take on other installation, repair, and maintenance duties as needed and legally permitted.
  • Follow workplace health and safety rules.
  • Carpentry: installing cabinets, doors, countertops and flooring including tiles, carpets or other hardwood and laminate coverings
  • Coordinate service with contractors and managers and handle complaints professionally.
  • Accurately log billable hours using a time sheet.
  • Manage job details, review daily tasks, and follow up with managers using our spread sheet.
  • Attend out of hours call outs. Mon -Sun

Relevant Skills:

  • Carpentry skills required.
  • Experience in working as a handyman.
  • Valid clean driver’s license, and own van.
  • Basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC knowledge
  • Basic carpentry, fitting doors and locks, building bookshelves, and installing cabinets and furniture, painting and decorating.
  • Confident using hand tools and power tools.
  • Able to perform basic mathematical calculations and convert measurements.
  • Strong organisational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
  • Can reliably work alone and as part of a team.
  • Great communication skills
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Friendly with good interpersonal skills
