Job Title: Occupational Therapist

Location: Dartmouth House, 70-72 Handsworth Wood Rd, Handsworth Wood, Birmingham B20 2DT

Salary: £28,344 – £35,895 per annum, with incremental increases on completion of probation and annually thereafter

Job Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: Full Time

Options for Care are currently looking to recruit an Occupational Therapist (HCPC Registered) to work within our mental health inpatient services in Birmingham. We have two hospitals, Montague Court and Dartmouth House, with a further, Stanford Court, due to open later this year, in addition to our recovery home, Orchard House.

  • Montague Court is an 18 bed male long term complex care mental health inpatient unit based in Edgbaston, Birmingham
  • Dartmouth House is a 16 bed male long term complex care mental health inpatient unit based in Handsworth Wood, Birmingham
  • Stanford Court will be a 20 bed male mental health inpatient unit based in Balsall Heath, Birmingham. This will consist of a 15 bed enhanced care service and five self-contained recovery flats to enable assessment of daily living skills in preparation for discharge
  • Orchard House is a 7 bed residential step-down service based in Erdington, Birmingham, which allows extension of the long term complex care pathway.

We offer relationship-centred, best practice interventions, supporting individuals to improve their quality of life whilst working towards their personal goals. This supports our organisational objective of enabling individuals to move towards living in the least restrictive setting possible.

Mission

– Realising Potential

Vision

– We offer best practice interventions to enable personal recovery and wellbeing

Values

– The individual is at the heart of everything we do

– We inspire, stimulate and empower people to achieve and grow through compassionate, supportive and protective relationships

– We deliver and continuously evaluate high quality service whilst respecting difference, promoting dignity and supporting the privacy of others

We are looking for a dynamic Occupational Therapist with a genuine passion, and preferably some previous experience, of working with people who have severe and enduring mental health diagnoses and are able to support our mission, vision and values. The MOHOST has been established within the service as the core occupational therapy assessment tool, providing evidence of change and focus on occupation. Additional assessments, such as AMPS, are completed as led by service-user need.

The successful candidate will be based at Dartmouth House, currently rated by CQC as good, and will be supported by the Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist.

You will be required to assist the MDT to deliver person centred care, supporting individuals towards community integration. We are continually developing and evolving our care pathway and use best practice outcome measures and assessment tools.

Staff development, support and supervision is in place alongside staff health benefits making Options for Care a welcoming and positive place to work. We also offer preceptorship to newly qualified staff and previous staff reflected on their experiences of this process within our company in June OT News (2019) ‘The first milestone’. More recently (November 2021) in OT News one of our occupational therapists compared working for us, with the expectation that they will always prioritise occupation, to a previous role which was more generic ‘Two jobs, two very different models of working’. These articles capture the value Options for Care places on service-users’ engagement in occupation as a core principle of rehabilitation.

Benefits:

  • £3000 welcome bonus (upon successful completion of probationary period)
  • In addition to an annual pay review, Options for Care benefits from an incremental pay pathway linked to the appraisal process. The first of these is awarded following successful completion of a six-month probation period
  • Sick Pay
